Bill On The Hill

Contact Congress For Jason's LawJason’s Law was first introduced in the House of Representatives by Congressman Paul Tonko (D-NY) on April 28th, 2009. Joined by Congressman Erik Paulsen (R-MT), the two presented bi-partisan legislation to the House Transportation and Infrastructure CommitteeBill HR 1803 was supported by 26 other legislators.  Unfortunately the legislation did not get out of committee for vote before end of session.

On May 5th, 2009 Senators Charles Schumer and Kristen Gillibrand also introduced Jason’s Law as S 1187. to the Senate Committee on the Environment and Public Works.  Again though the bill was widely supported and funds were available through the Clean Air Act, the bill did not get brought to the floor.

Due to the end of Congress’ 1st session, the bill needed to be re-introduced in both committees at the start of the second.

OUT OF COMMITTEE – ON TO THE VOTE

Jason’s Law was eventually incorporated into a larger piece of legislation in the Senate – EPW’s Highway Framework MAP 21.  We are thrilled to tell you that legislation was approved by the committee on November 9th, 2011.  We will update you when the bill comes to a vote on the Senate floor.  Please contact your Senator(s) to support the bill.

The current status in the House is that the language of Jason’s Law has been modified slightly to support it’s passage out of committee. It is being resubmitted by Tonka and Paulsen.  Contact Representatives of Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and tell them to support Jason’s Law Bill HR 1803.

When it comes time to vote, please contact your House Representative and ask him or her to pass Jason’s Law
