A Story of Hope

Hope Rivenburg is an amazing woman, though she would be embarrassed if you said so.  Her mission, since the murder of her husband, has been to make the road a safer place for truck drivers.  And they love her for it.

She is an unlikely hero – and if she had been given the choice she’d be anything but.  She is now a single mother of three.  Her son was almost two when Jason was killed.  Her twins never had the chance to meet their dad. The abandoned gas station where he was murdered was the only place available to park his truck.

SMALL TOWN GIRL

Hope lives in Fultonham,a small town in upstate Schoharie County, NY. But she’s managed to get bi-partisan support in both the House and the Senate for Jason’s Law.

  • In the house, Congressmen Tonko and Paulsen sponsored HR 1803, as part of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. 26 representatives from both parties signed on to support it.
  • The Senate included Jason’s law in their two-year highway reauthorization bill, sponsored by Senators Charles Schumer and Kristen Gillibrand that passed unanimously Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011 by the Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee.

Hope has become a fixture in the fight, not a lobbyist or a beltway bandit but an unstoppable advocate – a woman who loves her husband and will not let his senseless death be ignored or repeated.

She pounds the phones, pays the cost of her flights to DC, goes to trucking events around the country to gain their support. She’s got it.  The American Trucking Association, as well as large transportation firms and small independent owner operators stand behind Jason’s Law.

Hope is creating a non-profit foundation in Jason’s Memory. (See below to contact her) and though she is currently focused on Jason’s Law – she says there a lot more things people need to know about a life on the road. To violently lose your husband and yet find a way to use it for the greater good – Mrs. Jason Rivenburg gives us all hope.
